Continuing Education and Workforce Development At Queensborough Community College To Hold Free AWS Hackathon
The Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at Queensborough Community College will offer a free AWS Cloud Practitioner Hackathon on Friday, October 21.
The virtual program, which will be held from 1 – 5 pm, will feature group exercises for AWS Cloud Practitioners as well as the opportunity for participants to network with colleagues and apply Cloud knowledge to actual AWS projects from Amazon. Participants will also learn about industry career opportunities and gain access to recruitment resources.

WHAT: The Blackstone Foundation is celebrating Female Founders and October is National Disability Awareness Month.
WHO: a panel discussion with Queensborough Community College student moderators VALERIE MUSE, majoring in Public Health, and SHARON WHINSTON, Art & Design, who were previously in the spring Blackstone Launchpad cohort together. Muse, 19, is co-founder of a nonprofit for girls from underrepresented populations to play volleyball called the Long Island Knights. An accomplished athlete, Muse ranked nationally last year with Queensborough's Track team for the heptathlon, finishing 5th nationally. She was also named USTFCCCA All-American. This year Muse is a member of the Women's Volleyball team and has been recognized by Blackstone as Featured Women's Founder.

Queensborough Community College President Dr. Christine Mangino Named a 2022 Power Player in Education
Each month,PoliticsNYand amNY Metro produces a special section focused on different topics of interest throughout the NYC Boroughs and Upstate. This year, the focus is on the 2022 Power Players in Education. Dr. Christine Mangino, President of Queensborough Community College, is among those cited as an outstanding and influential educator.
Mangino, a champion of student success, inclusiveness and belonging, is the first in her family to attend college. She commented that, "I am deeply honored to be recognized--and to be in the company of such esteemed educators and colleagues."

Queensborough Community College faculty received over $80,000 in funding as part of CUNY's historic Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI)
Queensborough Community College faculty received over $80,000 in funding as part of CUNY's historicBlack, Race, and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI).
More than 500 proposals were submitted from across CUNY and were evaluated by members of the BRESI Council and nine Benefits for Proposals (RFP) committees. A total of 126 proposals have been selected for funding, including those that demonstrated such qualities as innovation, focus and impact on development of ethnic studies, and sustainability; emphasis was also placed on representing a broad cross-section of the CUNY community. These awards have been conferred for a project term of September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

Ranked #1 in NYS, Queensborough is Top Community College
Queensborough Community College is the highest-ranked community college in New York State and is among the best community colleges in the country, according to a report released by WalletHub.com that compares more than 650 community colleges across 19 key indicators of quality and affordability. The data set ranged from the cost of in-state tuition and fees to each college's student-faculty ratio and graduation rates.
It is the fifth year in a row Queensborough has been listed as a top institution of higher education by WalletHub for its education outcomes, career outcomes, and affordability.

Queensborough Student Makes it to the Big Screen!
Burnt Out, written, voiced, and directed by Lucy Eliscu at Queensborough Community College, has been selected by the Student World Impact Film Festival, (SWIFF) in the Short Film category. SWIFF is the premier student film festival that attracts submissions from more than 5,000 aspiring filmmakers from more than 100 countries each year. Of those, just three hundred films were selected. A virtual week-long film screening and awards ceremony will be held the week of November 13-18, 2022.
